ADAM Audio S3H Active Midfield Studio Monitor (Single) (ADAM Audio S3H Active Midfield )

ADAM Audio S3H Active Midfield Studio Monitor

3-way horizontal active studio monitor designed midfield applications

The ADAM S3H is a three-way active studio monitor that features dual 7-inch bass drivers, each powered by separate 500 W Class D amplifiers, offer flawless reproduction of frequencies all the way down to 30 Hz. ADAM Audio’s newly developed DCH, a 4-inch hybrid dome/cone mid-range driver, is powered by a 300 W Class D amplifier and handles audio above 250 Hz and below 3 kHz, its leading-edge hybrid design offering the sonic advantages of both cone and soft-dome drivers in a single, one-piece unit. Frequencies above 3 kHz are routed to the innovative combination of the S-ART treble driver (each handmade at ADAM Audio’s Berlin factory), the new precision HPS waveguide, and a 50 W Class A/B amplifier. The result of all this innovation is a beautifully transparent three-dimensional soundscape, with an extensive sweet spot.

The S Series’ custom-designed DSP optimizes the loudspeaker crossovers to create linear responses for the entire range, as well as providing user equalization and in-room tuning/voicing functions. A unique feature of the S3H’s DSP options is a built-in factory EQ preset that emulates the response of ADAM Audio’s legendary S3A monitor. The DSP also handles the limiter-based high-frequency driver protection, processes the signals from the AES3 digital inputs, and will in time facilitate various expansion options. Software updates can be carried out with ease via the associated USB port, which also allows users to connect computers and control the speakers’ DSP functions via a software front-end.

With its massively powerful amplification and three-way design (optimally configured for use horizontally), the S3H was conceived as a midfield monitor, but can be employed equally well in more compact listening environments. As with all ADAM Audio designs, the sound is punchy but musical, with crystal-clear reproduction of the all-important mid-range.

The S3H’s wide-ranging frequency response, its power amps’ instantly available, plentiful headroom, and the lack of need for additional subwoofers should appeal to any audio professional looking for a stand-alone, full-frequency active solution for their recording studio, one which provides equally detailed audio information at any volume setting, loud or quiet. Whatever your preferred output level, the S3H’s vibrant authenticity is a spur to creativity for producers, engineers and musicians everywhere, and its sound remains remarkably unfatiguing, even when working uninterrupted for extended periods.

3-Way vertical active main monitor designed for medium-sized and larger studios

The ADAM Audio S5V is a 3-way active reference monitor that's optimized for vertical placement and reproduces full-bandwidth, high-resolution audio with complete accuracy and clarity.

ADAM Audio’s Extended Linear Excursion (ELE) bass drivers and Symmetrical Magnet Assembly (SMA) technology were developed especially for the S Series, and the 12-inch bass driver on the S5V benefits from both concepts, offering a quality of reproduction without equal in terms of accuracy, dynamic range and freedom from coloration. The 4-inch DCH MF driver, with its unique hybrid dome/cone construction, handles the important mid-range information with extreme precision, while ADAM Audio’s S-ART folded-ribbon tweeter, handmade in Berlin to the tightest possible tolerances, produces breathtaking highs and ensures the soundfield is presented in all of its most delicate, filigree detail.

The off-axis responses of the treble and mid drivers remain extremely accurate thanks to the addition of high- and mid-frequency waveguides milled from solid aluminum: ADAM Audio’s newly developed Mid-range and High-frequency Propagation Systems (MPS and HPS). The resultant stable, wide-ranging dispersion ensures that teams of more than one person can work in the loudspeakers’ sweet spot simultaneously, as is often necessary in larger control rooms.

The S Series’ custom-designed DSP optimizes the loudspeaker crossovers to create linear responses for the entire range, as well as providing user equalization and in-room tuning/voicing functions. Sub2100: The ultimate subwoofer

For the special requirements of large control rooms and studios, ADAM has developed a unique subwoofer. The Sub2100 combines an enormous 21” woofer and an amplifier capable of 1000 W continuous power housed in a bass-reflex enclosure tuned for reproducing frequencies down to 20 Hz. The massive power and the extremely high efficiency (99 dB/W/m) enable this system to produce linear SPL peaks of ≥128 dB without any significant compression.

The biggest voice coil in the world

Essential to the volume of this woofer is the gigantic voice coil, with its 152 mm (the largest worldwide). So, the Sub2100 reaches high SPL in the lowest frequencies perceivable by the human ear. This means nothing less but a new subwoofer benchmark.

ADAM Audio S7A Mk2 Active Main Studio Monitor Speaker (ADAM Audio S7A Mk2 Active )
The S7A MK2 is the result of ADAM Audio's quest to offer the best possible monitor innovations that we've established in the field of loudspeaker technology.
The main monitors S6X and S7A Mk2 are designed for large control rooms and film studios. They present a completely new, impressive concept: to transport the unique realism of the ADAM monitors at a very high SPL level. In accordance with ADAM’s main goal to achieve the best possible authenticity in music reproduction, any overemphasis of the bass frequencies should be avoided. Furthermore, it is essential for neutral sound characteristics at high volumes to achieve a wide dispersion in the horizontal plane and a somewhat narrower dispersion in the vertical plane, thus reducing reflections from the ceiling, the floor or a mixing console. Less reflection means superior imaging and better localization, facilitating the best possible transportability of mixes across the widest range of playback systems.

Advanced D‘Appolito-array

The arrangement of the seven discrete loudspeakers facilitates a gradual transition of the chassis dimensions. One of the most important aspects of these monitor’s new approach is the horizontal symmetry of the drivers, which could be referred to as advanced D´Appolito array. If the drivers are filtered properly there are – besides the dispersion characteristics mentioned previously – two more advantageous results:

There is an absence of any sudden change in directivity with frequency, leading to harmonic dispersion behavior throughout the audio band. The absence of sudden changes in directivity is not visible in a frequency plot, but clearly audible - especially with a full range of materials, from single complex sources such as the human voice to the wide sonic palette of large orchestras.

The dynamic capabilities of the monitor are distributed over the audio band more equally, and louder recording or mixdown sessions with SPL´s of 120 dB are handled without offending the ear.

Impulse Coupling

In order to get a precise and undistorted reproduction, all drive units are mounted on an ultra stiff 25 mm thick aluminum honeycomb plate, which is acoustically dead - thereby providing an extremely mechanically stable bridge to the cabinet (IC). As the drivers are much better fixed this way their time behavior (and consequently their clarity) is audibly and measurably improved.

Amplifiers

Both the S6X and the S7A Mk2 ADAM use the new generation of switching amps and power supplies. These are combined in an extremely powerful (1000 and 1500 W rms respectively) yet cool amplifier assembly. Together with the built in overload protection circuits these amplifiers will run reliably and at constant safe operating temperatures not possible with conventional designs. The amplifiers are of extremely low output impedance, leading to a damping factor >4.000, enabling them to strictly control the motion of the drive units.

The front panel

Numerous controls on the front panel introduce a new degree of control for main monitors.

Along with the input gain, there are level controls for each of the four drivers, shelving filters on both ends of the frequency spectrum, and three full parametric EQs (20-200HZ) that can be used to combat standing waves in the control room. The EQ can be bypassed individually or as a group so that their overall effect can be analyzed in direct comparison to the unaffected signal.

In large film score mixing rooms, it may be desirable to have a representation of the sound in the theatres. To meet the ISO 2969 Standard, the Dolby™ X-curve has to be applied.

Using pink noise, the X-curve engages a 3 dB per octave roll-off above 2 kHz. Both the S6X and S7A Mk2 have a switch that activates this filter, eliminating the need for external processing during the film mix.

S7A Mk2

The S7A Mk2 is the ‘big brother’ of the S6X and ADAM’s most spectacular studio monitor to date. With a whopping combined 1500 W of onboard power (rms), this monitor reaches SPL peaks of 128 dB at a distance of 1 meter. The big bass diaphragms produce even more volume even at lowest pitches down to 20 Hz.

Both 15” subwoofers are driven by 500 W rms each, while 250 W rms units are powering all the other frequency bands.

The benchmark

Quite simply, we feel that the S7A Mk2 is the benchmark of what is possible in the state of the art full range active professional monitoring. It incorporates all of the ADAM inventions and designs, as well as the best materials available. This fusion of power and capacity with precision and accuracy results in unparalleled performance in professional monitoring.

The S7A Mk2 is ADAM’s contribution to the best possible studio monitor available. The proof is in the listening – we encourage you to hear for yourself.

ADAM Audio A77X Active Nearfield Studio Monitor Speaker - Right Single (ADAM Audio A77X Active)
A revolutionary formula: 2 x 7 = 77

In some set-ups it can be advisable to use a horizontally designed speaker rather than a vertical one. Until now, such monitors were only available within the SX top line.

The brand new A77X, due to its outstanding features, might become a true game changer: Equipped with the same advanced technologies as the A7X, it therefore is very similar to the two-way speaker. The A77X, however, distinguishes itself by much higher, compression-free maximum sound pressure levels and dynamics. Due to its power and radiation characteristics, it also is perfectly suited for both near- and midfield monitoring.

Driver technology

Like all models of the AX series, the A77X features the ADAM proprietary X-ART tweeter. The ‘X’ stands for ‘eXtended frequency response’ and thus for one of the features of the Accelerating Ribbon Technology that has been drastically improved: the frequency response. It now extends all the way up to 50kHz. In addition, the X-ART tweeter has higher efficiency and higher maximum sound pressure levels.

The two 7” woofers are identical with that of the A7X. With their large voice coils (1.5”) and powerful amplifiers, they are capable of both very high maximum sound pressure levels as well as very deep registers. The woofers do not cover the same frequency bands: while both of them are responsible for the (sub-) bass frequencies up to about 400Hz, only one of them reproduces the midrange. This prevents interferences between the two drivers. For stereo setups the A77X is available in A and B versions in order to guarantee a precise stereo image.

Amplifiers / controls

Each driver has its own dedicated amplifier. A 50W A/B amp is responsible for the X-ART tweeter, while the bass-/midwoofers are driven by a 100W PWM amp each. The front panel includes a power switch and a control for the volume that retains the volume setting independently from the on/off switch.

The rear panel features several additional controls: a gain for the high frequencies (± 4dB) and two shelf filters for high and low frequencies.
To ensure greater compatibility, there are both XLR (balanced) and RCA (unbalanced) connectors.

ADAM Audio Sub15 Active Subwoofer Speaker (ADAM Audio Sub15 Active )

ADAM Sub15 Active Subwoofer Speaker

The Sub15 is an extremely powerful subwoofer that is capable of extending the frequency range of main and midfield monitors down to 20Hz. The sturdy 15“ woofer is made of an exceptionally rigid aluminum membrane and is driven by two powerful magnets and a 100mm voice coil. With the power of 1000 Watts (RMS) the PWM amplifier has an efficiency factor of nearly 90%. With these performance features the Sub15 is very capable of handling critical musical passages with high and sudden bass peaks without showing signs of distortion or overheating. The downward firing bass port has been specially designed to cancel any kind of port noise by applying generous dimensioning and rounded edges.

In order to tweak the sound of the Sub15 to different room situations or individual taste we have implemented several controls as there is one for the volume (-60dB to +6dB) and one control for the crossover frequency (50 - 150Hz). The satellite speakers can be driven full range or high pass filtered at 85Hz by choice. In this way the Sub15 can be easily integrated in a Dolby surround setup. Furthermore unfavorable phase relationships between the satellites and the subwoofer particularly in the crossover frequency range can be dealt with the help of a phase reverse switch. The Sub15 also proves very flexible when it comes to connectivity: There are balanced (XLR) and also unbalanced (RCA) input / output connectors to be found on the rear of the subwoofer.

The Sub15 joins excellent transient behavior with an impressive low frequency performance which makes music reproduction a very genuine experience. With a high and undistorted sound pressure output of 112dB maximum SPL in one meter the Sub15 makes the perfect subwoofer for mid-sized and larger control rooms.

ADAM subwoofers

Our subwoofers are dedicated to ADAM Audio’s primary goal: the best possible authenticity in the reproduction of music. For our subwoofers, this means combining power and precision while simultaneously avoiding “impressive” bass volume at the cost of accuracy. Their task is it to complement the highly acclaimed lucidity and transparency of the ADAM monitors in the lower and lowest frequencies.

Panel/Controls

All units have a level control that varies from -60dB to +6dB, a phase ±180° switch and variable upper frequency barrier control (50-150Hz), a switchable 85Hz high pass filter for the satellite output.

All subwoofers up to the Sub2100 feature both balanced (XLR) and unbalanced (RCA) in and output connectors, and numerous controls to adapt to different room acoustics and requirements.

ADAM Audio S6X Active Active Main Studio Monitor Speaker (ADAM Audio S6X Active Active )

ADAM S6X Active Active Main Studio Monitor Speaker

With its 7 drivers arranged in horizontal symmetry, the S6X is a top choice for larger control rooms and film or sound studios.

The S6X is one of the most ambitious studio monitors available today. They can be found in some of the highest profile studios in the industry, from elite private studios to world class jazz, from rock and orchestral tracking and mixing facilities to high powered hip hop production rooms. The concept of the horizontal symmetry of the drivers is greatly affected by the generous proportions of the larger diaphragms, resulting in both exceptionally flat frequency response and extremely realistic dynamic reproduction across the entire audio spectrum. Numerous controls at the front panel allow detailed adaptations to different acoustic environments.

This main monitor offers very high accuracy and power in sheer abundance. SPL peaks beyond 120 dB are produced without any compression or harshness. The S6X is a top shelf choice for larger control rooms and film or sound studios.

Main Monitors: S6X & S7A Mk2

The arrangement of the seven discrete drivers facilitates a gradual transition of the chassis dimensions. One of the most important aspects of these monitor’s new approach is the horizontal symmetry of the drivers, which could be referred to as advanced D´Appolito array. If the drivers are filtered properly there are – besides the dispersion characteristics mentioned previously – two more advantageous results:

  • There is an absence of any sudden change in directivity with frequency, leading to harmonic dispersion behavior throughout the audio band. The absence of sudden changes in directivity is not visible in a frequency plot, but clearly audible - especially with a full range of materials, from single complex sources such as the human voice to the wide sonic palette of large orchestras.
  • The dynamic capabilities of the monitor are distributed over the audio band more equally, and louder recording or mixdown sessions with SPL´s of 120dB are handled without offending the ear.

Impulse Coupling

In order to get a precise and undistorted reproduction, all drive units are mounted on an ultra stiff Aluminum honeycomb plate (=IC).

Amplifiers

Both the S6X and the S7A Mk2 ADAM use the new generation of switching amps and power supplies (=PWM).

These are combined in an extremely powerful (1000 and 1500W rms respectively) yet cool amplifier assembly. Together with the built in overload protection circuits these amplifiers will run reliably and at constant safe operating temperatures not possible with conventional designs.

The amplifiers are of extremely low output impedance, leading to a damping factor >4.000, enabling them to strictly control the motion of the drive units.

Control panel (S6X & S7A Mk2)

A second switchable input on the front allows servicing without moving the unit.

All LED indicators can be dimmed if necessary.

ADAM A7X Active Nearfield Studio Monitor Speaker

Balanced and versatile speakers, with detailed, uncompressed highs and powerful, precise bass response!

The A7X is ADAM’s best selling nearfield monitor. It is one of the most balanced and versatile speakers currently on the market. The X-ART tweeter produces detailed, uncompressed highs and upper mids without being tiring over long listening periods. Despite its compact housing, the bass response is powerful and precise.

The tweeter is driven by a 50 Watt A/B amplifier and the bass/mid-woofer by a 100 Watt PWM amplifier. This achieves a very clean and nuanced reproduction of the midrange frequencies with a seamless transition in the crossover from the 7" woofer, which operates in the range of 42 Hz to 2.5 kHz, towards the X-ART tweeter.

The A7X‘s ability to exactly reproduce every sonic detail no matter how small, its translucent sound image, tonal depth and stereo localization inspires music producers and explains why it is by far the most reviewed and award-winning monitor in recent years.

Driver technology

The first aspect that distinguishes the old from the new model is the X-ART tweeter. The ‘X’ stands for ‘eXtended frequency response’ and thus for one of the features of the Accelerating Ribbon Technology that has been drastically improved: the frequency response. It now extends all the way up to 50kHz. In addition, the X-ART tweeter has a higher efficiency and higher maximum sound pressure levels.

The perfect integration with the lower frequencies has been achieved with a newly designed 7” midwoofer. It has been redesigned with a much bigger voice coil (1.5”) and is driven by an amplifier with twice the power compared to its predecessor. This combination produces an amazing sound and pressure levels with an almost distortion-free musical reproduction.

Amplifiers / controls

Each driver has its own dedicated amplifier. A 50W A/B amp is responsible for the X-ART tweeter, while the midwoofer is being driven by a 100W PWM amp. The front panel includes a power switch and a control for the volume that retains the volume setting independently from the on/off switch.

On the rear panel are several additional controls: a gain for the high frequencies (± 4dB) and two shelf filters for high and low frequencies.

To ensure greater compatibility, there are both XLR (balanced) and RCA (unbalanced) connectors.

The Adam AX-Series

The AX-Series from ADAM Audio provides you with a wide range of monitors for different applications. Their excellent price-performance ratio makes them suitable for professional studio applications as well as upscale home recording.

Sophisticated design, easy handling

Many technical innovations in our high end SX-Series are also used in the AX models. The chamfered upper corners of the sturdy cabinet fronts minimize edge diffraction so that phase cancellation is not an issue. The speaker interior is equipped with a special fleece that prevents disturbing internal resonances as well as ensuring a better bass reflex tuning. The power switch and volume control are easily accessible on the front panel for greater ease of use. The front-firing bass ports are very useful as well, allowing the monitors to be set up closer to a wall if need be.

Rigid woofer materials

While the bass/mid woofer of the A3X is made of carbon fiber – an extremely resistant material – the woofers of all other AX models are built using a sandwich construction of woven carbon and glass fiber in conjunction with the synthetic material Rohacell. These three materials vary with respect to their physical density, but used in combination they provide an ultra-lightweight yet extremely rigid material with excellent transient response.

The perfect combo: A/B and PWM amplifiers

All models of the AX-Series feature two discrete amplifiers: an A/B amplifier that functions very quickly within its broad frequency range drives the X-ART tweeter. In the A5X, A7X, A8X and A77X monitors, the bass/mid- range woofers are each driven by powerful and highly efficient pulse-width modulated (PWM) amplifiers that do not require additional heat sinks and are more reliable and durable than other amplifiers.

Distinct adjustments to room acoustics

The ‚Tweeter gain‘ function is a part of each AX monitor’s basic configuration and lets you raise or lower the level of the high frequencies by up to 4dB. Beyond that, shelving filters allow further adaptation to room acoustics with the A5X, A7X, A8X and A77X. The low shelf filter allows smooth control of the lower frequencies below 300 Hz from -6 dB to +6 dB, the high shelf EQ is introduced at 2.5 kHz with the same levels from -6 dB to +6 dB.

Dynamic high frequency reproduction with the X-ART tweeter

It goes without saying that all models of the AX-Series are equipped with our X-ART tweeter that is handmade in Berlin. The tweeter works according to our proprietary X-ART principle, based on a slim, pleated foil working as the tweeter's diaphragm. The precise transient response and capability of reproducing the finest sonic details make the AX-Series monitors superior working tools.

ADAM Audio A77X Active Nearfield Studio Monitor Speaker - Single

Horizontal, 2 1/2 way monitor with dual 7" woofers and ADAM's patented X-ART ribbon tweeter

The Adam Audio A77X is a horizontally designed 2 1/2-way monitor that features Adam's handmade X-ART Tweeter and dual 7" drivers and combines all of the technical innovations in the AX-Series. Due to its powerful, compression-free sound reproduction and excellent radiation characteristics, it is suitable both for nearfield and midfield monitoring.

The special feature of the A77X is its 2 1⁄2-way system. Both 7” woofers start to work together at 38 Hz and at 400 Hz one woofer fades out and only the second woofer continues to operate in the midrange up to 3 kHz. This prevents interferences and possible phase cancellation in the critical midrange. Even though frequency transitions and potential distortions lie outside these areas, the human ear is particularly sensitive to midrange frequencies.

Especially noteworthy in the A77X is the extremely wide stereo foundation and brilliant stereo imaging. Treble and mids are reproduced with three-dimensional realism and the lows are, as expected from a double woofer design, massive without compromising on precision.

ADAM Audio T5V Active Nearfield Studio Monitor Speaker (ADAM Audio T5V Active Nearfield Studio Monitor Speaker)

ADAM Audio T5V Active Nearfield Studio Monitor Speaker

A Highly affordable premium Near-field Monitor, 2-way monitor with 5” woofer and ADAM's famous ribbon tweeter

The ADAM T5V is a highly affordable two-way nearfield monitor and optimized for small control rooms. T5V features a 5” woofer and the bass-frequency response extends to 45 Hz. The new U-ART tweeter, a breakthrough solution for use in high-resolution recording and mixing on a budget, goes up to 25 kHz and is mated to a precision waveguide with the same dispersion-control attributes as the High Frequency Propagation (HPS) waveguide used in ADAM Audio’s flagship S Series monitors. The waveguide’s highly uniform dispersion of high frequencies provides an incredibly wide sweet spot that frees you from being glued to a rigid mix position while working.

A beveled cabinet with a rear-firing bass reflex port and a small footprint allows placement anywhere in your room, no matter how small, and contains built-in DSP-controlled driver crossovers and equalization as well as multi-way analog connections. Powered with a 50 W Class D amplifier for the woofer and a 20 W Class D amplifier for the U-ART tweeter, the T5V produces SPLs of up to 106 dB per pair.

Excellent acoustic characteristics, small dimensions and an outstanding cost/performance ratio make this studio monitor perfectly suited for use in small control rooms in music, video and broadcast production.
