Avantone MixCubes Active Reference Monitor Single - Black (Avantone MixCubes Active Reference Monitor Single - Black)

AVANTONE MIXCUBES

This Avantone MixCubes is an active reference monitor perfect for small to medium studios for alternative monitoring. Mixcubes are designed to be high-resolution, full-range powered mini-reference monitors for fixed or remote locations. The secondary engineering facet was to create a timeless design that compliments a single full-range transducer.

Studios primarily use 2-way & 3-way larger monitors designed to represent a wide range reference viewpoint at higher listening levels. However, in this newly developing age of High Definition Audio, there is still a need to also hear what your mix will sound like when played back over small “bass-challenged” systems such as televisions, clock radios, computers, car stereos, iPod docking stations, etc. It is important to make mixing judgments based partially on listening to reference monitors that will not impart tonal anomalies caused by crossovers or inferior full range drivers.

Particular attention is always paid to the critical mid-range vocal/guitar/keyboard areas. This is where having a full-range monitor without a crossover is truly revealing. Ten months of R&D comparative listening & tweaking went into the voicing of the AVANTONE MixCubes. The result is a very smooth sounding, full range upgrade from the original 5C Sound Cubes. Listening tests reveal that the MixCubes have a smooth, more open, transparent top end response with extended bass while maintaining their basic original character.

Avantone CLA-10-Passive NS-10 styled Monitors (Pair) (Avantone CLA-10 - Passive NS-10 styled Monitors (Pair))

AVANTONE CLA-10

The Avantone CLA-10 is a remake of the world renowned NS10M reference speaker, these monitors provide further insight into midrange frequencies and allow you to monitor gain levels to cater sessions appropriately for consumer audio products. The CLA10s are not the easiest of speakers to listen to. They provide a mid-heavy, almost fatiguing sound with limited bass shelving and can, at times, sound clinical to the point of chilliness.

However, the benefits of mixing with CLA10s for engineers who stick with them are bountiful, such that if a mix can be made to sound pleasing on this speaker it is almost guaranteed to translate well whatever system the track is played on thereafter. Avantone intended to make the design as repeatable as possible to ensure uniform voicing, frequency and build quality across every new speaker they manufactured.

In place of the lapped seam technique used in the original woofers, the CLA10’s cone is machine-pressed to achieve the same frequency response and speed of movement, every time. Better quality internal crossover components have also been selected, and the banana plugs at the rear of the MDF chassis have been upgraded with modern fittings for longer life and improved ease of use.

One of Avantone’s principal consultants in the CLA10’s development and a true music industry polymath, Chris Lord-Alge’s long list of credits include mixing artists from James Brown to Bruce Springsteen, Prince and Joe Cocker. No stranger to collaboration with audio developers, in 2010 Lord-Alge also made his first foray into signature recording tools with the Waves ‘CLA' collection of audio plugins.

Avantone MixCubes Active Reference Monitor Pair - Cream (Avantone MixCubes Active Reference Monitor Pair - Cream)

AVANTONE MIXCUBES ACTIVE REFERENCE MONITOR PAIR

The Avantone MixCubes were originally inspired by the 5C sound cubes and have become the industry standard in studios around the world and are the #1 best selling speaker of its type in history.

AVANTONE MIXCUBES FEATURES

Balanced Input:
This “combo XLR” input accepts a BALANCED male XLR plug as well as a 3-conductor BALANCED TRS ¼” or a 2 conductor UNBALANCED TS ¼” male plug. For unbalanced operation with a TS connector the minus signal is automatically grounded.

System Gain:
This variable control adjusts the sensitivity of the signal that appears at the input. Rotating the control clockwise increases the sensitivity while a counter-clockwise rotation decreases sensitivity. The adjustable gain range is from -30 to +6 dB. A setting of +6 allows a full, unimpeded signal to be sent to the amplifier. The detented gain positions allow for repeatable settings between speakers for proper matching. Please Note… when the signal appearing at the input is too hot, the amplifier can overload causing distortion and possible damage to the speaker. If overload occurs, attenuate (decrease) the input level by turning the knob counter-clockwise a few clicks.

On/Off Switch:
This illuminated switch turns the amplifier section on and off. The unit is still receiving power from the transformer however.

AC Input:
This input is only to be use with the proprietary AVANTONE Power Supply. Tighten the cable/connector securely for reliable operation. Note: There is a switch on the power supply for selecting the proper AC/MAINS operating voltage for your location.

Ground Lift Switch:
By engaging this switch the pin 1 shield is lifted at the input jack. This can be used to aid in ground loop control of the incoming analog line signal.
Placement: When positioning the Avantone Active MixCubes on stands or console bridges it is best to keep them at ear level and slightly angled in towards the engineer. Since they are shielded it is ok to place them near a CRT video monitor or TV without causing any problems. The bottom mic stand mounts will also allow you creative positioning options in unusual studio playback situations.

Avantone CLA-10A - Active NS-10 styled Monitors (Pair) (Avantone CLA-10A-Active NS-10 styled Monitors (Pair))

AVANTONE CLA-10A - PAIR

The Avantone CLA-10A is a studio monitor designed with the famous Yamaha NS10s in mind. These studio speakers feature an all new “VTPC” knob or “Variable Tissue Paper Control.” This VTPC allows you to simulate any thing from the Vertical “m” model to the horizontal “Studio” model and everything in between. This tone control allows each user to choose the best tweeter brightness that serves their individual needs. The CLA-10A's feature the AV10MHF and AV10MLF drivers from the CLA-10 as well as cabinet construction. The CLA-10A's also feature a beefy Class A/B power amp section.

While this has proven to work well in recent years, we are still traditionalists. With the success of the CLA-10 and CLA-200 amplifier combination, we decided to stay with what engineers all over the world have come to expect from this combination. The CLA-10 Active uses a linear power supply and 200 watts of Class AB output. Yes, it requires a heatsink. Yes, it weighs more. Yes, it sounds awesome.

We use a monolithic integrated circuit Class AB amplifier with wide voltage range and high current output capability. Operating in Parallel Mode with two devices ganged together to deliver higher output power into low impedance loads, allowing better thermal performance at high power. At low power, THD is a phenomenal 0.005%; at rated load it is 0.1%, yielding excellent performance at power compared to class D amps. The circuit uses a mixed bipolar MOS high voltage technology called BCDII 100/120 which avoids secondary breakdown phenomena. This technology handles high current output without unwieldy circuit complexity and external components. This makes it possible to deliver very high power in a reasonable package with the clean, smooth sound of a linear amplifier.

The system is being run at +/-40 VDC, yielding a rock solid 200WRMS at 1kHz into 8 ohms. Rather than use a switch mode power supply with the associated noise, we decided to stay traditional with a linear power supply. The power supply uses a massive old school toroidal transformer for the classic performance of an AB amplifier. Many companies use SMPS and Class D for this type of system. We made the decision to stay with classic technology in order to maintain the legacy sound that everybody associates with this design.

The brand new CV12-BLA edition features input from none-other than Chicago-based outboard and modification house Black Lion Audio. Several innovative mods have been made to the CV12’s design which affords it an even cleaner, fuller sound that allows vocal, instrument and overhead recordings to sit even more effortlessly in mixes.

Under the hood, a completely overhauled a-board circuit tames the CV12 high-mid frequency hump and achieves a flatter response and more balanced range. The original 32mm K67 capsule has been swapped out for a larger 34mm CK12 style diaphragm, offering slightly sweeter highs combined with boosted, more powerful lows.

For additional flourish, the CV12BLA ships with an eye catching Jetsun shock mount specially designed to give closer access to vocalists, and a faux alligator carry case that screams 'Made with pride in USA.'
