The Class A Stereo Transient Mixing and Mastering Designer

The nvelope stereo transient designer is another impressive product from elysia, the audio processing powerhouse. This Class A impulse shaper performs mixing and mastering responsibilities using four clever modes that alter the functioning of its four principal controls. Overall, the envelope may create subtle or noticeable adjustments to a source’s attack and sustain intensities, or it can function as a flexible high/low shelf EQ. In addition, three of the nvelope’s four modes provide real dual mono and stereo link operation. Elysia’s envelope, which can be used on individual instruments, stems, or even whole mix buses should be on the rack of any serious mixing and mastering engineer.

Four knobs, four options

The envelope’s brilliance rests in its four modes, which influence how its four knobs (one on each side) function. Full Range mode allows you to easily augment or attenuate attack and sustain sound parts, and it includes an extremely handy Auto-Gain function that prevents clipping. Dual Band mode allows you to adjust the precise start/end frequencies of a source’s attack and sustain parts. EQ mode disables the envelope’s dynamics processing entirely, transforming the device into a versatile high/low shelf EQ with cuts and boosts.

Finally, Mixed mode opens up a world of audio possibilities by turning off the Stereo Link, allowing either side of the envelope to work as two distinct, simultaneous processors. Depending on the mode, the nvelope’s four basic controls — Attack, Frequency Attack (Freq A), Sustain, and Frequency Sustain (Freq S) — will change appropriately.

Ideal for your drum overheads and room microphones

One of the most overlooked techniques for producing a great drum sound is to approach the drum set as a single instrument. That’s why many tracking and mixing engineers who are recognized for their incredible drum sounds frequently begin with drum overheads and room mics before focussing on individual drums or applying reverb. The nvelope’s outstanding Class A circuitry, along with its ultra-useful attack, sustain, and EQ shaping controls may enhance or attenuate these channels — even individual drum channels — to sound perfection. While drums are an obvious use, any instrument with considerable transient information (e.g., slap bass, electric guitar, or piano) can benefit from the elysia envelope.

Also perfect for your mixed bus.

The nvelope’s Dual Band mode has particularly delighted studio engineers due to its ability to treat individual instruments and even whole mix buses without adding artifacts. It does this with the Dual Band mode’s distinct frequency settings for attack and sustain, which allow you to either soothe or enhance the transient “feel” of an entire stem or mix.

Mastering Edition Specifics

The Mastering version of the elysia nvelope has +/- 5dB gain increments, stepped potentiometers, and transparent processing. This allows the expert mastering engineer to easily recall sessions, manipulate sensory input, and ensure audio fidelity.
