Legendary Neve Sound — Optimized for Surround Mastering

Equipped with six transformer-balanced audio paths, the AMS Neve 8051 Multichannel Compressor is tailor-made for world-class surround broadcast and mastering applications. Handbuilt and hand-wired, the 8051 Multichannel Compressor is based on six 2254 compression circuits, which use the same feedback topology as Neve’s acclaimed 33609 stereo compressor. You can tap into that vivid, voluptuous Neve sound quality with the comprehensive tonal control and versatile sidechain routing you need for advanced mastering techniques. In other words, the AMS Neve 8051 Multichannel Compressor offers the flexible dynamics control you need, while imbuing your mix with that legendary Neve sound quality.

Dual compressor paths with advanced routing options

Equipped for 5.1 surround applications, the AMS Neve 8051 Multichannel Compressor offers two dynamics control sections that you can select on a per-channel basis — perfect when you want to compress the center channel more than your rear surrounds, for instance. The 8051 is equipped with a highpass and a lowpass filter, both of which you can use to fine-tune how the compressor responds. You can also inject the filters into any channel’s signal path if you choose — especially useful for controlling your low-frequency effects (LFE) channel’s cutoff point. And for 10.2 surround and other applications, control voltage I/O allows you to expand your system with multiple 8051 units.

The pristine signal path for world-class audio

The 8051 Multichannel Compressor is handbuilt and hand-wired in AMS Neve’s Burnley, England, facility to extremely high specifications. All six audio paths are transformer balanced, while the key input and LFE input are electronically balanced. All other inputs are transformer balanced. All outputs are electronically balanced with post-output transformers. However you use it, you can expect the full sonic appeal of your mix to shine through, with encompassing bass, detailed mids, exciting highs, and exceptional sonic depth and dimension across the entire spectrum.

The legend continues

At Sweetwater, the name Neve commands reverence. Rupert Neve started designing audio equipment in the tube console era but made his mark with solid-state designs. Setting up shop in Little Shelford in the ’60s, Mr. Neve faced many obstacles establishing his brand amid a new technological landscape. Transistors were new, expensive, and difficult to obtain in quantity in the UK. Reliable faders didn’t exist yet — a far cry from today’s world, where parts are affordable and readily available from multiple suppliers, all competing to win bids. Nevertheless, Rupert persisted. And by the early 1970s, the Neve company was humming along, taking orders and building custom transformer-balanced consoles for recording and broadcast studios the world over.

Neve 80-series consoles had a huge, punchy, and authoritative sound that defined the sound of ’70s rock. From London to New York to Los Angeles and beyond, top studios were installing Neve desks as fast as they could. By 1978, with the introduction of the majestic 8078 — the pinnacle of hand-wired analog “production” consoles — and NECAM automation system, Neve boards were the main component of the success formula for any recording studio with world-class aspirations. In the decades since, AMS Neve has innovated with groundbreaking products such as the VR, VX, and 88R series consoles. And today, the company continues to advance the state of the art with cutting-edge pro audio gear that sounds incredible and intelligently addresses the challenges of the digital age.
