New scale modes.

Perhaps the most interesting new feature of the Launchkey 49 MK3 is its eight onboard scale modes. We all use modes, whether we know it or not. The 3rd-generation Launchkey allows you to put down a smokin’ Mixolydian bass line or blast out a great solo in Dorian mode without getting bogged down in music theory. (Of course, knowing a little theory is always beneficial to musicians!) Scale modes transpose the keys you play into the notes of your chosen scale. Simply select your root note and desired scale, and then play. No matter how skilled a keyboardist you are, Launchkey will help you streamline your creative process and extend your musical vocabulary.

Advanced Features

New features of Launchkey 49 MK3 include chord modes, arpeggiators, and mutes. Chord Modes transform the Launchkey MK3’s keys and pads into an interactive control surface for music exploration, with each note coupled with its tonal and harmonic properties. The arpeggiator allows you to quickly experiment with new ideas and nail the right melodies, while the mutate function reassembles your patterns to create intriguing new musical statements.

New custom modes.

Launchkey 49 MK3 custom modes make communication between controller and software easier, placing more power than ever at your fingertips. Custom Modes, which are programmed using the browser-based Novation Components tool, allow you to completely alter the behavior of your Launchkey, including control assignments, MIDI routing, pad color, and more.

New Connect your external gear.

If you use external equipment with a 5-pin MIDI DIN connection, the Novation Launchkey 49 has you covered. Connect your hardware synths and devices to your rig and control everything using your Launchkey, whether you’re using it alone or with a computer. Previous-generation Launchkey models lacked this capability, so we’re delighted that Novation has included it on the Launchkey 49 MK3!

New Pads are larger and more sensitive

The Launchkey 49 MK3’s larger velocity-sensitive pads give you greater control over dynamics, while its eight fixed rotary knobs bring your software instruments to life with effortless, real-time performance control. Integration with Ableton Live is airtight, with a dedicated button for activating Capture MIDI functionality, plus track arm, quantize, and click and looping controls, so you can fly around your session quicker and easier than ever.

The full-size, five-pin MIDI output is compatible with any MIDI-enabled device. Configure four custom modes for Launchkey using Novation Components, which map the knobs, faders, and pads to software and hardware functions.

Standalone Operation

Launchkey works independently, making it the ideal controller for any music-creation setup, with or without a computer. The scale and chord modes, together with the arpeggiator and custom modes, can all be utilized to control an all-hardware studio or live setup.
