SPL SMC 7.1 Surround Monitor Controller Overview:
The SMC 7.1 adds eight channels to analogue surround monitoring and provides headphone jack, Solo, Solo-In-Place, and Solo-To-Center functions.
Speaker Management & Inputs
The SMC 7.1 can be linked to two 7.1 and two stereo input sources. This is significant since two productions are constantly compared during monitoring. To add a subwoofer to a stereo input, press the LFE button. It is possible to turn on and off each loudspeaker separately, and the SMC 7.1 retains the last speakers that were used for each source. The loudspeaker on/off switches are now solo buttons thanks to the Solo-In-Place feature. This makes it possible to hear each loudspeaker at its location by itself.
Solo-To-Center Feature
In the event that critical listening is necessary, Solo-To-Center positions the chosen loudspeaker on the centre speaker so that it can be precisely heard from the front.
There is an additional output that can be used to connect two stereo loudspeakers.
An 8-level potentiometer is moved by the 45mm all-aluminum rotary knob.
Mute is particularly crucial in situations where a glitch is causing the DAW to send full-range audio rubbish. Mute can be rapidly used to safeguard hearing and speakers.
You can monitor using headphones as an alternative to speakers. The headphones have an independent volume control and can be turned on.
Expansion Rack
Installing the SMC 7.1 in the Expansion Rack allows it to screw into a 19-inch rack.
A switch on the Expansion Rack allows the SMC 7.1’s stereo output signal to be passively routed to four different stereo outputs.
The SMC 7.1 is enhanced with three extra stereo outputs in this configuration.
This makes it possible to monitor and manage a 7.1 loudspeaker array as well as full-range, mid-range, and near-field stereo speakers.
