SSL 611EQ-Fusion-derived EQ in a 500 Series Module
Derived from the Violet EQ section of SSL’s much-admired Fusion processor, the UltraViolet gives you two bands of minimum-phase shelving equalization. This 500 Series module takes things a bit further than Fusion, however, with two additional fully parametric mid bands and a Focus control for surgical tone sculpting. You also get a 5-frequency selectable highpass filter, along with a ±12dB output trim and a bypass switch. Simply stated, the Solid State Logic UltraViolet is a stellar-sounding EQ with eminently musical curves. And here’s a quick tip for an instant radio-ready sound: pair the UltraViolet with the 500 Series SSL Bus Compressor module, and every mix will sound like a finished record.
TWIN EQ CIRCUITS
The SL 4000 E console has been used to mix countless classic records. Renowned for its punchy, grungy sound, the E-series channel strip is one of the most beloved EQ designs ever created. Now with the new SSL 611EQ, you can capture the sound of the original “Brown knob” design from the early 80s as well as the updated “Black knob” design from the mid to late 80s in one flexible 500-series package.
All SSL consoles prior to the summer of 1985 were equipped with “Brown-02” card, which offer a cut/boost of +/-15dB. The last version of the standard E series EQ is the ‘Black-242’ card, which features a cut/boost of +/-18dB. Both models feature unique frequency response curves, giving you two totally different tonal options a single module.
FOUR-BAND DESIGN
The SSL 611EQ features a four-band design, providing plenty of flexibility for tone shaping. Both the high and low frequency bands can be toggled from shelf to bell, allowing for broad adjustments or surgical precision. The midrange bands are fully parametric with controls for gain, frequency and Q allowing for diverse tone sculpting options. The BLK button toggles between the Brown and Black EQ circuits, while the IN button provides an easily accessible bypass button for A/Bing tracks.
FLEXIBLE FREQUENCIES
The low-frequency band on the SSL 611EQ features a frequency range of 30 Hz to 450 Hz for thick, rich lows. The LMF band ranges from 200 Hz to 2.5 kHz, and the HMF band ranges from 600 Hz to 7 kHz, providing lots of flexibility in the crucial midrange. Finally, the high-frequency band features selectable frequencies from 1.5 kHz to 15 kHz for bright, sparkling highs.
